A CSN Review - Maples Clock

I was recently given the opportunity to review a product for CSN.  I chose the Maples 15" Molded Wall Clock in Black Antique
The process and delivery of the clock was, as always very fast and  on target.
I was very excited to get the box with the clock in it.  We have been wanting a clock for our little dinning room since we moved into this house.  It is nice to look over and quickly see the time on the wall.  The clock arrived and at first glance I was very happy with the clock it was a pretty look with the roman numerals and black antiqued edges.  My husband helped me get the clock hung on the wall which was also very simple.  That is when he noticed the crease in the paper.  The background where the numbers are is written on some sort of paper.  There is a crease or ripple in the paper and on close inspection that little ripple can be very aggravating.  So for that reason we are a bit disappointed with the appearance of the clock.  The paper really brings down the value of the clock when looking closely.  We do continue to use the clock as the crease is barely noticable, and for day to day use I am very pleased with the function of the clock.  I just wish I could smooth out the paper or better yet I wish the numbers were written on something a bit more sturdy then just paper.  One a scale of 1-5 I would give this product a 3 due to the quality.
The clock keeps good time and the functionality of the clock is great.
Disclaimer:  I was provided this clock for review purposes by CSN stores.  The company had not influence on the review of the product.  All of the thoughts in this review are my personal opinions.

Making Money

Ok So I am not really a pro at making money here online.  I honestly have made very little but I did want to take a moment and share a few little money making sites that I have used with you:

1. SwagBucks - Have you signed up for this yet?  You get swagbucks for searching the internet something we all do anyways right.  Then you can trade them in for prizes. They have some physical things but the thing I like is the gift cards.  450 swagbucks buys a $5.00 Amazon gift card.  Fridays are mega-swag bucks day meaning a chance for bigger bucks for the search.

Just click on the banner above to join.  I will even get a few bucks for sending you if you go through my banner.

2. Sponsored Tweets:  This is a fun one if you have a twitter account you can send advertisements on your twitter to make a little extra cash.  I have not made a ton off of this I think because I don't have a huge amount of twitter followers, but I have made a few dollars.  My goal for this one is the reach the $50 cash out before Christmas to have a little extra to spend on presents.  When you have $50 you can cash out directly to pay pal.
Here is the link to it- again if you sign up through my link I will make a little off of it.

3.  I have just started social spark I have just signed up with them and have not done anything else so I am not sure how I feel about the program yet.  You are offered pay for writing posts on your blog.  Here is the link for that one.  Again sign up for if through the link and I get some sort of benefit from it.

Set Your Price. Choose your Advertisers. Sign up for SocialSpark!

4.  Another one I have signed up for but not done alot in is My Likes.  I have signed up and liked something through twitter and earned 7 cents so I really have not explored this one yet either.  Again like the others here is the banner to click on to join, I am sure I get some sort of benefit for you joining through my link but to be honest I have no clue what it is.

Are you involved in of these types of sites?  How have they worked for you?  Which is your favorite?
Have a great day !!!

Book Review- Mine is the Night

Book Review:
Mine is the Night - Liz Curtis Higgs

It is time for another Book Review.  I must admit after my last book I had a hard time starting this one I was afraid that I would end up in another book that was a slow read, and this book is a very thick with 442 pages.  Once I started this story I knew I had nothing to worry about.  This book held my attention once I started reading I could not stop.

The store is a Sequel to Here Burns my Candle.  I have not read this story and was still able to understand and enjoy the book.  The story is very similar to the story of Ruth from the bible.  Elizabeth goes with her Mother in law, Marjory back to Marjory's hometown with nothing to their names.

I love the writing style of Ms. Higgs's  The story is very well woven together.  I immediately fell in love with all the characters of this book.  Their faith and strength are inspiring.
I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.
This is a wonderful read!! If you are looking for a good book this would be a good choice.
Disclaimer:  I recieved a free copy of this book for Waterbrook multnomah for review purposes only.  The opinions in this story are mine and are not influenced by the company.

You can rate this review on the Ranking bar Below:

St Patrick's Day Craft

Tomorrow is St. Patrick's day.  Do you have your green picked out to wear?
I wanted to share a simple craft that we did that turned out rather cute.
We made Tie dye Shamrocks:
Supplies:
Coffe Filters
Blue, yellow, and green markers
spray bottle of water or water and a paint brush
a pattern of a shamrock small enough to fit on your coffee filter.
scissors

1. Trace the shamrock onto the coffee filter
2. Then color it with the different colors.  you can put designs in it or just scribble across it with the colors.  (IF your kids do designs warn them the designs will disappear when you make the tie dye.) - Make sure to ask the kids what two colors make green?
3. Cut out the shamrock ( It is important to do this step before using the water or you will lose your shamrock shape)
4. Spray or gently dab the water onto the shamrock, and watch the colors blend.
5. Leave your creation to dry.  It will dry fairly fast.

Enjoy!!
DLTK is a great site to find more fun Holiday Crafts!

Baby Legs - Review and Giveaway

Have you heard of Baby Legs?
I was recently given a chance to review a grab bag of their wonderful products.
I was sent this wonderful assortment of things for baby bug:
Two pair of Leg Warmers - Rain and Maze
Tights - Rose Dots
Socks - Sweet Tooth

My Review:
I am in love!! My favorite is the Rose Dot Print Tights.
They are very thick and seem to be very high quality to me.  Another big plus is the feet actually have grippy on them so my on the go baby is not slipping and sliding all over the place, I have never seen that in a pair of tights.  The cute little heart on the rear adds a nice touch as well.

I have seen all the leg warmers around lately but have never had a pair for babybug.  I was happy for the chance to review the leg warmers and see how I liked them.  We received two pair: Rain and Flower Maze.  I really like Flower Maze Baby Bug has a lot of pink in her wardrobe so these were perfect for her.  Just look at these little Baby Legs trying to climb mount couch -

I also Received set of socks labeled Sweet Tooth - These are adorable. Since we had so many new leg and feet accessories I chose to save these for her Easter basket.  If you are looking for fun things to add to the basket that don't cause a sugar overload this is a good place to look, and the sweet Tooth socks are a perfect candy themed item to add with the eggs.  I have taken them out of the package and done to see about their quality and these like the Tights and Leg warmers are of very good quality.  The have a sweet little ruffle top and more grippy on the feet to keep baby bug from sliding all over the hardwood floor.

To Buy:
You can purchase you own socks, tights and leg warmers at BabyLegs Prices seem to range from about 10-16 dollars.  Though I can not afford to buy all of baby bugs tights and such at this price I will be keeping them in mind for special occasions.  Also for the Mom on the budget they have a clearance section.  They have a deal going where if you order $50 worth of items off the clearance page you will get the items for 50% off!! That is a sweet bargain!

To Win:
Guess what??
Baby Legs has offered to send a grab bag of goodies to Learning to be Thrifty viewer.

Helping Hands Linky

Check out the new Helping Hands Linky Button- Feel free to add it to your blog!!

It is time for us to share a bit of love and help each other out!!
The helping hands linky
This is a linky of helping each other.  You put in a request of something you want done such as someone entering your giveaway, following your on twitter, facebook, or some other blogging need.  Then you full fill the requests of the three people before you on the linky.  This way we can all reach out and help each other.  When starting a new linky I will add the last three requests off of the old linky so those requests can still be met.  Please do not add your request to the linky unless you plan to meet the needs of the three people in front of you.  Also I know at times you may not be able to meet their requests such as when it is a giveaway entry and you have alerady entered please find some other little way to help them out!
I used to participate in a linky similar to this one over at Ten Talents she used to run a linky called This for That which had the same type of theme of helping each other.
Here are some sample entries:
* Please follow me on twitter - (Linked to your twitter account)
*Please enter my giveaway (linked to the giveaway)
*please follow me on facebook ( linked to facebook fan page)
Etc. Etc. Etc.

Recap:

List your need in the linky and fulfill the needs of the three people above you in the linky
Do not list more then one need in a row as you would be one of the three people under you who would be there to fulfill your request.  But after three more people have put in requests it would be fine to add another request.

* Please Note only list one thing at a time so that there will be people under you to help you and so that the people above you can have three different people to try and help them out.

Blogger Appreciation Day: February 2011

Blogger Appreciation Day: February 2011

I love looking at google analytics at all of my blog statistics.  To me it is neat to see where my viewers are coming from and what all is happening so
This linky over at 3 boys and a dog is so much fun!!
She lists the top ten site that refer to her blog. Minus the big sites like google or twitter.

3Boys&aDog

Here are the rules she lists on her site:
  1. Go into your tracking service (I use Google Analytics) and set the time period for February 1st – February 28th.
  2. Find the sites that have referred readers to you and put them in order from most sends to lowest. (I only do blogs and small businesses, not big sites!)
  3. Write a post (like this one) listing your top 10 referrers.
  4. Grab the Blogger Appreciation Day picture and add it to your site or post. (It is also nice to link back to my site, since I am giving you a link )
  5. Link that post up in my LinkyTools below. (Please do not list your current giveaways!! If you want your giveaways linked, send me )
  6. Scroll down and you will see a list of links, simply add your direct post link to it.

Here is my top ten:
1. Tight Wad in Utah - 94 visits
2. Mom Advice- 46 Visits
3. Contest Girl - 27 visits
4. Sweeptight - 26 visits
 9. Giveaway Blogs - 17
It is very interesting to compare these to last months referrals in January's post

Thank you to all my referring sites!!
Don't forget to go add your post to the linky at 3 boys and a dog if you choose to make an appreciation post!

Book Review - Beneath the Night Tree

A Book Review - Beneath the Night Tree
    By: Nicole Baart

    A brief description:
Do I have a child? Julia DeSmit knew she would face the question eventually, but she didn’t expect it now. At twenty-four, she is finally content with the way her life has unfolded. A single mother to her son and young brother, she works at the local grocery store while chipping away at a two-year degree. All her free time is spent with her unorthodox family—her boys, her grandmother, and her boyfriend of five years. It’s not perfect, but Julia is happier than ever.
So when she receives the cryptic e-mail from her son’s father, Julia’s world is turned upside down. She hasn’t heard from Parker since he left her in a college parking lot nearly six years ago. But one look at her son—the spitting image of his father—is enough to convince her that, for better or worse, Parker is a part of their story. Faced with this new reality and an unexpected tragedy, Julia begins a tightrope walk between what was and what is, what she hopes for and what will be.

    My Review:
I admit this was a hard one for me to initially get interested in.   I put off getting started reading it, I just was not feeling it.  Even after starting it the first few chapters were a slow read for me.  About halfway through I realized I was finally becoming drawn into the story and understanding the main character Julia a bit better.  by the last pages I was hooked and wanted to know what her fate would be.  Over all I would give this book 3 out of 5 stars,  even though I was not easily captivated in the end I was very drawn to the book.
I liked how it ended I will admit I wanted to Julia to do what she did in the end I guess that does not make much sense, but I  can not tell you what she did our it would spoil the ending!!

Disclaimer:  I did recieve a free copy of this book from Tyndale Media for review purposes.  The company did not influence my review in any way the opinions in this post are my opinions.

Gourmet Gift Basket review and giveaway

I recently was given a chance to review the snack gift basket - classic from Gourmet Gift Basket
Can I just say yum!! We have devoured most of the yummys in this basket pretty quickly.

Here is a list of what you will find in the giftbasket:
    Ingredients:
    · Dipping Pretzels by East Shore Specialty Foods - 6 oz. - East shore is known for their plump and salts pretzel sticks which are meant for dipping.
    · Raspberry Honey Mustard Pretzel Dip by Robert Rothschild Farm - 7.8 oz. - This Robert Rothschild pretzel dip is a delicious blend of juicy raspberries, clover honey and tangy mustard. Not only does it have a distinctive flavor, but it's also all natural. Kosher and gluten free.
    · Key Lime White Chocolate Chip Cookies by Brent & Sam's - 7 oz. - Made from scratch, these cookies have a crunchy style and are tangy yet sweet to the taste. The key lime flavor is perfectly balanced out by the sweetness of the white chocolate chips.
    · Almond Pecan-dy Crunch by Morley Candy Makers - 9.25 oz. - This gourmet popcorn by Morley Candy Makers is renowned for being one of the best. With whole almonds and pecans, the irresistible buttery toffee evenly coats every bite.
    · Salted Peanuts in Box by Feridie's - 7 oz. - Feridie's uses only the best of Virginia's peanuts, the top 2% of the crop each year. Once picked, they are roasted in pure peanut oil and salted to perfection.
    · Petite Cheese Biscuits by Salem Baking Co. - 1.5 oz. - This beautiful tin is filled with savory, bite-sized biscuits that are baked with finely milled wheat flour and extra-sharp aged cheddar cheese. They are accented with the delicate crunch of toasted rice and a hint of cayenne and paprika.
    · Metropolitan Trail Mix by GourmetGiftBaskets.com - 4 oz. - Our metropolitan mix is all natural and contains exotic fruit like papaya and pineapples as well as raisins, cranberries and bananas. It also has whole peanuts, almonds and pepitas.  It's a natural and delicious snack!
    · Buttered Peanut Crunch by Old Dominion Peanut Company - 10 oz. - These peanut squares by Old Dominion can be found in all of our snack gift basket made with a bit of brown sugar and only the freshest grade AA butter. These ingredients combined with lightly salted peanuts makes for a scrumptious and crunchy treat.
    · Peanut Roll by Dillon Candy Co. - 3 oz. - Dillion Candy starts their roll with a fluffy nougat center which is covered by a distinct layer of caramel and is then rolled in lightly salted peanuts. This amalgam of texture and flavors makes for the most delectable of peanut rolls.
    · Coconut Bar by Oskri Organics - 2.2 oz. - This bar is 100% organic made of only fresh coconut and rice syrup. It has a delicious crunch and is sure to satisfy any coconut lover; that's why you'll find it in our gourmet snack foods baskets.

Ours did not have the cheese biscuits in them but had a very yummy substitute of short bread chocolate chip cookies.  I was ok with this change!  I have never had short bread cookies with chocolate chips in them and this was a good combination!!!
I think my favorite item in the basket was the Key Lime cookies.  These were very unique but oh so tasty!!
My least favorite was the pretzel dip, I was looking forward to trying it but it was a little too spicy for me.  I really liked how their was such a variety of sweet and salty this is the perfect snack basket, I could see this as a good basket to send to friends and family who are waiting at the hospital, as it would provide such variety.   The basket it all came in is very nice I have turned it into a snack basket on my counter, to hold all of my little snacks!!

The basket comes very nicely wrapped it looked alot like the picture above when I pulled it out of the box.
Gourmet Gift Baskets have alot of different gift baskets to choose from for so many occasions!!
