Gourmet Gift Basket - Care Package review and giveaway
Junk Food Care Package
Yesterday a very fun package arrived at my door step. It was the Junk Food Care Package from Gourmet Gift Basket. What a fun treat. The box was loaded down with all kinds of fun treats. I could see this being a great gift for the college students this fall. I could just imagine their excitement at getting one of these boxes filled with treats. This would also be a neat gift for grandkids or nieces or nephews this summer what child wouldn't want to find these treats on their doorstep?
I was very shocked at the shear number of things in the box. We will be eating these snacks for days. I am munching on the wild berry skittles as I type this. The box came with bubble packaging below and above the treats to keep them from getting smashed and they arrived in great shape even the bags of chips arrived in good shape without being all crumpled.

Summer Reading
Ok Parents I have to ask! - Are your children reading this summer?
I think daily reading is one of the best things to help students keep and build on their skills through the summer.
Check into your local library's reading program many librarys have reading programs that include incentives for reading and logging as well as educational programs for the children.
If the library is not an option for you I encourage you to create your own reading program. There are many website that offer reading logs you can use.
Make sure to offer children a prize for reading a certain number of books. For older children who are reading chapter books you may want to make that prize based on reading a certain number of pages. Many librarys do this to make the goals more attainable for older children.
Oh and parents of young children don't forget to read to them!! This builds language skills and well as increasing their vocabulary.
Happy Reading!!

Book Review- Here Burns My Candle
Here Burns my Candle by: Liz Curtis Higgs
Back in March I did a review of Mine is the Night this was the second book in a two book series. I have now had the honor of reviewing the first book in this series- Here Burns my Candle.
I must say that when starting to read this one I was afraid I would not enjoy it after all I knew how the story ends having read the second book in the series. After putting the reading off for a few weeks I began reading and once again was very intrigued by Higgs's writing once I got started into the book I could not put it down and read the entire book very quickly. The interesting thing between these two books is that they tell to completely different stories in the same character's lives.
I was fascinated when I began reading this book with the fact that the characters had come so far between book one and two. There was some serious heart changes and growth of characters between the two stories.
Just as in book two the story parallels the story of Ruth in the bible. As you read this story you can not help but feel joy, and grief along side the Kerr family as they struggle through a war time.
I highly recommend these books. I am sure you will enjoy the journey back to eighteenth-century Scotland. I give this book 5 out of 5 stars!!
