Here Burns my Candle by: Liz Curtis Higgs
Back in March I did a review of Mine is the Night this was the second book in a two book series. I have now had the honor of reviewing the first book in this series- Here Burns my Candle.
I must say that when starting to read this one I was afraid I would not enjoy it after all I knew how the story ends having read the second book in the series. After putting the reading off for a few weeks I began reading and once again was very intrigued by Higgs's writing once I got started into the book I could not put it down and read the entire book very quickly. The interesting thing between these two books is that they tell to completely different stories in the same character's lives.
I was fascinated when I began reading this book with the fact that the characters had come so far between book one and two. There was some serious heart changes and growth of characters between the two stories.
Just as in book two the story parallels the story of Ruth in the bible. As you read this story you can not help but feel joy, and grief along side the Kerr family as they struggle through a war time.
I highly recommend these books. I am sure you will enjoy the journey back to eighteenth-century Scotland. I give this book 5 out of 5 stars!!

I use to love reading, I still do, but I don't have time anymore :( Hopefully I'll be able to find some time this summer, since my husband will be on vacation.
