From the time my dad taught me to read at sit-on-the-floor school when I was four—launching me past kindergarten into 1st grade—I have loved learning and expressing what I know through art, music, and especially writing. Education came easily, and I grew accustomed to having my work read and displayed. But breaking out of the family mold, I left college to marry my husband Jim (celebrating our 29th this year.) Since then, life and all kinds of research have provided the grist for my stories. We have three awesome adult kids, and one incredible teenager. (You might think I’m biased, but ask anyone who knows them.)

While home schooling my four kids, I wrote my first novel. I pitched it for publication, and it became the first of a five book historical series. Since then, I have written three more historical novels and nine contemporaries. The Still of Night was nominated for the Colorado Book Award. The Tender Vine was a Christy Award finalist and Secrets won a Christy in 2005.

People often ask why I started writing, and I say to get the stories out of my head. Some say they’d like to write a book, but I say if you’re not wracked with labor pains, there are easier ways to express yourself. Being a writer is a solitary, eccentric, and often compulsive path. But I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Little Bit was very excited when we got this video in the mail.  From the moment she saw the front of the video box she was asking for her animal movie.  After watching it she named the zebra her favorite, she never really caught on to their names  so she has walked around asking to see her zebra movie ever since we first watched it a week ago.  She loves the small scene where Marty (the zebra) does the little poka dot circus dance, she just loves that little clip!! I found the movie cute, the plot is not really indepth but it was still a fun movie to watch with the family.  It is rated PG for Some mild action and rude humor.  I must admit I did not catch the rude humor I guess I was not watching closely enough.  Over all I thought it was a cute family movie.

I married relatively late in life, which turned out to be an odd kind of blessing. I have always been intrigued with the Amish culture, their gentle ways and slower-paced lifestyle. (And I love, love, love the fact that they stay married for their lifetime.) But until recently I never thought to blend this interest with my penchant for romance. Okay, okay, I’m a bit old-fashioned and even enjoy the gender roles that are present in this culture. I love to cook and take care of my family. Yes, that’s me June Cleaver with a laptop.

I dislike people trying to convince me to read the Twlight series (I’ll get to it or I won’t, either way I’m good with it), gratuitous violence, and strawberry ice cream. (I know I’m alone on this last one, and again, I’m good with it.)

Favorite movies–(besides HP) French Kiss, Maid of Honor, A Lot Like Love, Just Married, and Sweet Home Alabama. Oh, and Miss Congeniality, Sabrina (both versions) and a 1940′s movie called Dear Ruth. If you haven’t seen it, you should! A-dorable. Anything with Doris Day and most all of Marilyn’s and Audrey’s.

My Thoughts:  I started watching this video with my young daughter.  Within the first five minutes I realized that this was not a video for her.  She handled the goofy spooky things just fine.  I did not want her picking up some of the crude phrases and scenes from the Shrek segments.   So I stopped the movie and decided to watch it after she went to bed.  So movie night resumed after she was tucked into bed and fast asleep.  The video includes tales by the Shrek characters and tales from Monsters vs. Aliens.  I must say I was not as impressed with the Shrek tales they kind of bored me.  I did enjoy the Mutant Pumpkins tale from the Monsters Vs. Aliens.  I think this video is defiantly for older children.  I may have to pass it on to some older kids and get their opinions on the video.

My Thoughts:  This book has been a very good read.  I will admit for me it started as kind of a slow read, but I kept reading and it was not long before I was hooked.  What is so interesting about this book is the view points.  You get to know characters from so many sides and walks of life directly after the civil war.  A southern family, a family of former slaves, and a Yankee.   I give it a 4 out of 5 stars!!

Book Review- Unending Devotion

I am only part way through this book, but so far it has been a good read!!  I can not wait to find out what happens next!! 

The Bridesmaid- Book Review

My Thoughts: 
This was an interesting read.  Most of the Amish fiction I read the couples are from the same area.  It was an interesting look at the differences in different sects of Amish.  I  liked the story line.  I did think it did not go real in depth with the characters.  I did not feel like I really got to know them as well as I usually do with books.  It took me a long time into the book to understand the character Cora, at first I just could not get her attitude and demeanor.  By the end of the book I did understand her a little better, but still never truly got her dynamic.  I give this book a 3.5 out of 5 stars. 

Book Review- Her Good Name

Ruth knew she wanted to be a writer ever since she wrote her first story--a spy thriller--at the age of twelve. When she overhears of a position to clean house at a local high school teacher's home on Elm Street, she jumps at the opportunity--to be able to run into Warren Brentwood now and again, but also to imbibe of the culture and intellectual atmosphere of the Stocktons.

When rumors about Espy and her respected employer begin to circulate, the entire church congregation and then the community pronounce judgment on her behavior. Warren believes the lie and his loss of faith in her causes Espy to give up without a fight. She leaves her family and hometown for the nearest city with little money and no acquaintances and is forced to spend the night on the street. A man who heads a mission for the homeless finds Espy and offers her shelter. Espy finds the true love of God while working at the mission. Will she be able to forgive the townspeople and return home?
